Shay Wright asked:

Twin Creeks is popular golf course community located about 20 miles north of downtown Austin in Cedar Park, Texas. Twin Creeks is positioned nicely between two spring fed creeks on the edge of the Hill Country. Large oaks and green rolling hills are common in this area, and Twin Creek residents live a balanced life of work and leisure in a warm, friendly atmosphere that enhanced by the community’s natural surroundings and an array of neighborhood amenities.

Twin Creek Amenities: Twin Creeks offers a lot of great activities and amenities for the entire family. The Club & Family Amenity Center features a gameroom, a kid’s corner, an entertainment lounge, and weight and aerobics rooms with staffed childcare on hand for the kids. A restaurant, pro shop, and tennis courts are also on hand for Twin Creek residents, and of course, there is the very popular community pool area with its amusement park water slides and Junior Olympic pool.

Twin Creeks Golf: Legendary golf champion Fred Couples designed the Twin Creeks Golf course, which strikes a perfect balance with the rolling hills, rugged terrain, and large trees in the surrounding area. The natural landscape offers sufficient challenges for experienced players and newcomers alike, and a PGA pro is always on duty for those who want to polish their game.

Twin Creek Schools: If schools are an important consideration, you’re in luck because Twin Creeks children attend some of the finest schools in the highly acclaimed Leander Independent School District. Residents at Twin Creek attend Cypress or Deer Creek Elementary, Cedar Park Middle School, and Cedar Park High School.

Homes in Twin Creeks: Homes in Twin Creeks range in price from $200,000 for a cozy 1,600 square foot residence to over 1 million dollars for a 6,000 square foot home on a nice acre lot over looking the beautiful Texas Hill Country. There are also a few condo options to choose from in Twin Creeks as well that range from $200,000 to $270,000 for 1,529 to 1,874 square feet.

Shopping & Entertainment: Downtown Austin, famous for its live music, vibrant nightlife, and countless dining and shopping opportunities is just a short 20 mile drive from Twin Creek. However, don’t overlook all the shopping, recreation, and entertainment opportunities in Cedar Park as well. One of the largest indoor malls in the Austin area, Lakeline Mall, is just a couple miles from Twin Creeks as well as the famous blue waters of Lake Travis.

Clint Hitchcock asked:

Here’s a free golf tip that will help you play better golf. You hear a lot of golf instruction teaching you to make sure you lead with your left side, arm, etc… What about the right hand in the golf swing.

This golf tip may seem a little strange at first, but once you learn the secret, your short game is going to see a major improvement. When you set your right hand on the golf club, the majority of golf instructors will tell you that the right palm should face the target. I disagree somewhat. In the proper(stronger) golf grip, it is the heel of the right hand that faces the target, not so much the palm itself.

If you have the ‘V’ of the right thumb and forefinger pointed to your right shoulder, like it should, you will notice that the palm of the right hand is pointed a little towards the sky.

Oh, here comes the but, or should I say **** of the right hand. When you practice your chipping or pitching of the golf ball, be aware of the **** of the hand leading the palm through the ball. Hold on to that **** for as long as you can as you follow through to the finish. You just might find yourself making better contact with the golf ball. It will also keep you from trying to scoop the ball. You’ll hold on to the wrist **** longer, which is great in the short game area.

If you practice this golf tip in your back yard or at the chipping green for some time, you will actually become aware of leading your golf swing by your ****… of your hand that is. It WILL become a guiding factor in how well you hit the ball. Your direction will become better and I think you just might discover what your golf swing should really feel like. Stick your **** out there and let it lead the way.

Steven Katz asked:

Unlike many other games Golf has the provision to decide how the golf players participating in a golf tournament are being scored. This practically leads to lots and lots of golf competition formats and choosing the right golf competition format among the available golf competition formats or inventing a new golf competition format for a friendly game is purely subjective and open ended. There are many corporate golf tournaments and friendly golf matches where the participating golfers decide upon the golf competition format and have fun.

However in most situations golfers chose one of the most popular golf competition formats for their golf tournaments and this leaves a question on the golf competition formats that are actually popular and widely used. The most popular golf competition formats and the brief scoring mechanism while using each of these golf competition formats are given below. However stroke play and match play have not been listed below considering the fact that they are too broad to classify golf competition formats.

One of the most popular golf competition formats for team tournaments and competitions is scramble. Generally played in teams of two, three or four; the scramble format insists on team work and bases itself on the best shot played by a team. In other words, every one in the team plays the initial shot and the best shot is taken for the next stroke and so on. There are several variants of the scramble competition format including Florida scramble, Texas scramble, Ambrose, etc.

Best ball competition format on the other hand works in the reverse way. Each golf player in a team plays his strokes until putting and the lowest score among all golf players in a team is considered as the team score. So best ball golf competition format relies on the consistent performance of all members in the team as opposed to the scramble format where the best player in the team derives it forward.

An alternate shot is another interesting golf competition format that is played in teams of two. As the name implies the players in a team play alternate strokes and the team with the best score at the end wins. Alternate strokes golf competition format gives a perfect balance in team when one is a pro and the other golf player is an amateur thereby grooming up the participants who are in the learning phase.

Modified Stapleford is another popular golf competition format that is applicable both to teams and individuals. In this golf competition format, each hole is given something called a Stroke Index and the number of shots allowed for a player per hole depends on the handicap of the golf player and the stroke index of that hole. The lesser the number of shots taken (from the expected number of shots), the better is the score and the player with the highest score at the end wins the game. The internationals in one of the most famous elite tours – the US PGA tour uses this golf competition format.

Another interesting combination of features from these golf competition formats is the Chapman or the Pinehurst golf competition format. Here again 2 person teams participate and the swing is taken by both the team members individually and then the balls are interchanged for the second shot. From the third shot, the best ball of the two is chosen and the players play in alternates with the same ball until the ball is holed.

An altogether different approach is provided by the Bingo-Bango-Bongo golf competition format where three specific events fetch points to the golf players – being the first to reach the greens, being the player whose golf ball is closest to the hole in the subsequent stroke and the first one to pot the ball. This is a quite popular golf competition format used in many league and gold association tournaments.

Flags is yet another interesting variant in golf competition formats where every participant is given a specific number of strokes to play depending on the handicap (the relative rating as compared to a beginner) and the player who either puts or gets the farthest within the given set of strokes becomes the winner.

There are several other popular golf competition formats including the Lone Ranger format, the Peoria system and the Callaway system and as mentioned earlier the choice of the right competition format is always a matter of choice and it largely depends on the participating golfers.

Paul De Vizard asked:

For an exceptional golfing experience, consider booking a round at Hills Country Golf Club. Cond? Nast Traveler has deemed Hills Country the number one golf destination in Texas and ranked it as number 17 worldwide. Located at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in Texas, Hills Country Golf Club is a popular course with guests of the hotel and locals alike.

About the Course

Hills Country Golf Club is located on 200 acres in the gently rolling landscape of San Antonio. With its wide-ranging terrain, green meadows, wooded ravines, steep hills, and typical Texan plateaus topped by trees, this golf course is a visual delight in any direction. Add to that a number of lakes and water features and a golfer can almost imagine he or she is back east playing at a longer established course.

This top-rated Texas golf course boasts Arthur Hills and Associates as designer. Its 27 holes have been beautifully integrated into the landscape to create a remarkable golf experience. After an exceptional round of golf, there are facilities to eat and drink afterward which adhere to the strict Hyatt Regency standards for food and beverage.

Additional Amenities

In addition to the verdant, rolling greens of the Hills Country Golf Club there are a variety of modern amenities which enhance any golfer’s game. Each of the golf carts utilize GPS navigation. The GPS system provides a screen showing a full-color course layout and a clear indication of the hole locations. As well, an electronic caddy feature offers playing tips and an automated scorecard. The golf carts are also equipped with a standard paper scorecard, pencil, and yardage books to keep track of your game the old-fashioned way. Thoughtful accessories include ball markers and repair tools, tees, a club and ball washer, towels, and even a beverage cooler for your comfort on the course.

Before you hit the greens, check out the putting green, instruction area, and beginner’s practice facility.

Outside of playing the course, Hills Country Golf Club offers a full-service clubhouse. There are locker rooms for both men and women, a restaurant and even dining rooms which can be booked for private affairs. The golf shop carries a wide selection of apparel, golf equipment, and all the accessories.

Hyatt Regency Guests

If you are entertaining the thought of traveling to San Antonio to take advantage of the Hills Country Golf Club, you may want to consider booking one of the packages available at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The hotel offers a variety of packages suited to both the beginning and seasoned golfer with special rates at the course and instruction for those who desire it. There is even a family instruction package available to get the whole clan out on the course.

Because vacations are usually more than just golf outings, the Hyatt Regency contains an extensive spa and lovely grounds which include several amusement park rides. For exceptional golf and a memorable vacation, there are few facilities which beat the Hyatt Regency San Antonio and the Hills Country Golf Club.

Wendy Pan asked:

The predecessor to Westinghouse is the Marketeer Company. A brief history is in order to properly account the history of Westinghouse and their electric golf cart.

Merle Williams started the Marketeer Company in the midst of WWII, when gas rationing wan in effect. He designed and developed a compact electric vehicle for his wife. As other saw his marvelous creation they called for more and so the company was born. It was not until 1951 that he developed the first electric vehicle designed specifically for playing golf. Peggy and Merle sold Marketeer to Westinghouse in 1965.

Westinghouse continued to build electric golf carts and other electric vehicles till the they sold the business to Nordskog Industries in 1978. The most popular Westinghouse electric golf cart is probably the four wheel 436 series

Today’s current economic situation is not that different that the times of William Merle, we are in the middle of fighting a war, gas may not be rationed but it is getting so expensive that the average man can’t afford it. And the current hot phrase, is to “go green”. And everyone is singing the praise of going electric. You would think it was a new concept .The truth is that there is nothing really “new” about electric vehicles at all. They have gone by the wayside with the advent of gas powered machinery, lost like the Stanley Steamer, electric carts where discarded from a very long time, but they are making a come back. And in fact in small, but growing circle, they never really left.

Many vintage Westinghouse golf carts are still available and there are quite a few collectors, enthusiasts and admirers, still today. Following is a comprehensive list of a few supplier of vintage electric golf carts and their parts and service.

Fairway Golf Carts in Palm Harbor, Florida USA.
Jerico Enterprises in Montrose Minnesota.USA
Kenfield Golf Cars Austin Texas USA
Vintage Golf Cart Parts Port Townsend Washington USA
New England Golf Cars Seekonk Massachusetts USA
Fairway Golf Car Corp Medford New York USA
Kenfield Golf Cars Austin Texas USA
Golf Carts Of Texas Kemah Texas USA
Vintage Golf Cart Parts Port Townsend Washington USA
Carts Plus (division of AutoPlace) Kelowna British Columbia Canada

There are also a good many classified available on line and the prices found range $600.00 to $1,200.00 and up depending on year and condition.

There are also a few clubs and newsletters that allow vintage Westinghouse electric golf cart enthusiasts to connect and share stories, ideas, trade parts and more. Most electric batteries contain 8 volts and last about eight hours on a full charge. A great economical way to get around and a wonderful collector’s item as well.

Sam Chapman asked:

Flintrock Falls is a gated golf community in the city of Lakeway, Texas. Flintrock Falls is a relatively new neighborhood and features a Jack Nicklaus golf course.

The area is quite hilly and many homes have wonderful long distance Hill Country views. Some of the lots in Flintrock Falls are a bit small so some of the homes feel pretty close together. However, there are sections that feature large lots of up to an acre. Homes in Flintrock Falls are generally custom, but one production builder did start some homes in the neighborhood.

Being situated in Lakeway, residents of Flintrock Falls have the use of Lakeway amenities. The Lakeway City Park is a nice park on Lake Travis with children play areas, barbeque grills, a volleyball court, a sandy beach and walking/jogging trails. Lakeway has a network of hiking trails that are very nice. The Lakeway Swim Center is something that area families can join and enjoy.

Flintrock isn’t too far from downtown Austin, being a 30-40 minute drive away. Within 10 minutes is just about all the shopping and professional service one would need. The Shops at the Galleria and the new Hill Country Galleria Mall are close by. In addition, a large, regional medical facility is about to break ground in Lakeway. This will feature a 140 bed hospital with a 24 hour emergency room and helipad, medical offices, a hotel, day care and more.

Recreation is all around Flintrock Falls. Residents have a mandatory social membership to The Hills Country Club. With a full membership, residents have access to two Jack Nicklaus golf courses, two clubhouses and a number of dining options. With Lake Travis very close by, jumping into a boat at an area marina can be 10-15 minutes away.

Homes in Flintrock are currently (June, 2008) priced from the high $300,000s to almost $2 million. In addition to custom homes, there are smaller villa type homes in Flintrock Falls. Zoned as condo, there are truly lock and leave for anyone looking for a second home.

Flintrock Falls is served by Lake Travis Independent School District schools, which are some of the best in Central Texas.

Robert Partain asked:

I was lucky enough to catch a little television interview with Ben Crenshaw the other day and the 3-minute video feature on him that followed. I’m glad I did.

If you’ve been watching the Masters this week, you already know that Ben is holding his own, and holding it against some much younger players. True, he isn’t leading, but he’s doing very well. And this isn’t too surprising. He already has two green jackets and years of experience. But during the interview and the feature on him, I learned a few things about his current style of golf and I thought I’d share that with you.

First of all: I had only admiration for Crenshaw when he said (with a straight face) that he can no longer drive as far as the younger players. He can’t match a Tiger Woods drive and he knows it. What I admired about him was that he didn’t let this get him down in any way. He accepts the fact that he’s older now and not capable of doing what he did in the past, but even so, he won’t allow that to dampen his spirit or his competitiviness.

Second: Knowing he can’t drive the ball as far as the younger guys, he concentrates on making the best drive he can and keeping the ball in play, while trying to set himself up for his next shot. In other words, he’s playing “smart” golf rather than “power” golf. This comes with years of experience and (more often than not) it shows.

Third: Now, this is the part that I enjoyed the most. Again, knowing he can’t out drive the others or even stay even with them in distance, Crenshaw is concentrating on his short game, and this is especially true with his putting.

It’s amazing how “equalizing” a course becomes once the players leave the tee area, and Ben Crenshaw is proof of this. Once they leave the tee, it doesn’t matter how old he is. Doesn’t matter if the other players are stronger, faster, or more agile. In fact, I’d even go so far to say that Ben Crenshaw has the advantage (because of his many years of experience) over the younger players once those drives are made!

Time and time again, Ben has shown us how important it is to stop and think as you read a green. He understands the importance of geography and how a ball will roll. He made one putt last week where it looked as if he was aiming five feet to the left of the cup. He hit the ball, it rolled waaaaaay off line and then turned and dropped into the cup. That was an amazing putt!

So, if you’re one of those players who cannot power off a 300 yard drive, don’t sweat it. Keep you drives straight and under control. Play them for positioning your next shot and practice, practice, practice your short game, especially your putting. No other club in your bag can save you more strokes than your putter. Just ask Ben Crenshaw.

Terje Brooks asked:

Every golf lover can rejoice in the rapid rise of the popularity of golf, as it is now among the most enjoyed individual activities in the world. Today, it is believed that there are more than 32,000 golf courses spread all throughout the world. With so many golf courses, it has also come to be that these golf courses each have a unique design for themselves, and the variety is astonishing. This is changing the way modern golf courses are designed and built.

There are more people now than ever taking up the sport of golf. The popularity of golfing is making it a necessity to build golf courses bigger and better than ever before. For this, it is easy to conclude that golf courses will be designed in a better way and will change from the current ways of building to a newer form of golf course construction.

The last generation of players that were big in the golf scene seem to be retiring, or have already put down their clubs. You won’t find gentlemen such as Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer, or Pete Dye on the courses anymore, leaving room for the younger generation to bring in their visions and build and design the golf courses their way.

Traditional minded golf course designers had put forth a lot of pizzazz that is lacking in the newer generation of designers. There are undeniably some talented designers in the younger generation, such as Jeff Brauner and Paul Albanese, so the future of designing golf courses is bright.

Coming up with the most elite of designs requires having a great education, as well as practice in the work of designing. Golf course designs these days differ vastly from the designs of the past, bringing with them the newness and possibility of harder and more challenging courses for competitors while still incorporating some older designs within the courses.

Before taking on a membership to any golf course, be wise and read the reviews for the golf course that you wish to join. This way, you can tell if the course is going to be right for you before you join, and you will know what to expect from the golf course.

The new designs for the golf course of today do much more than become an extension of the past designs. With many innovations to come for golf, the future is definitely looking bright for the future of golf course design.

Grigory Kononenko asked:

The Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit driver is the latest craze in the world of golfing.?This Nike golf driver features groundbreaking technology and is specifically designed for meeting the needs of different playing levels.?Perfection and control are the key qualities that come with the STR8-Fit model.
?
Adjustable Clubhead
?
The SQ Dymo STR8-fit by Nike comes with eight different face angles for golfers to choose from.?You can shift through the open and closed settings manually in order to have a variety of ball flights.?You no longer have to deal with shafts and removing weights as the Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit driver is fully loaded with different positions.
?
You have the option of choosing between a traditional rounded clubhead shape and the square clubhead, which is also known as the Dymo2. Changing from one position to the other is made easy with an included wrench.
?
Eight Settings for Better Performance
?
You can adjust the angle of the face, the loft as well as the lie angle with three different settings including open, neutral and closed.?The open and closed settings feature three different positions while the neutral one comes with two positions.?The different face angles can be opened or closed to give you the ability to control where the ball moves.
?
The neutral setting allows players to have an improved draw or fade when the lie angle is changed to either 2 inches upright or 2 inches flat.?You can also achieve the exact ball flight that you desire with the adjustments.?

With the SQ Dymo STR8-Fit, players can now have greater distance and more accuracy for shots.?The driver also comes with Nike’s UST Proforce XIV Core shaft which provides stability and faster swing speeds. This is a revolutionary golf driver with features that can be customized to a golfer’s exact playing style.?
?
What could be improved?

One of the areas of potential improvement is the instructions on what settings are suitable for what type of players. At present, the recommended approach is to try various settings and determine what setting works best. However, if in the future Nike can develop formalized instructions, Nike SQ Dymo STR8-Fit driver will be even easier to operate.
